Hello! My name is Rachel Dotson, and I am majoring in science and agricultural journalism, while also obtaining a minor in both animal science and agricultural economics. My roots are stitched to a town that has acquired the reputation of being the “Disneyland of Quilting” other wise known as Hamilton, Missouri.
Growing up, I was actively involved in 4-H and FFA. I would have to credit these organizations for helping me become the person I am today. However, I have always held the swine industry close to my heart. My family has been raising and showing pigs since 1973. When I finally turned 8 I was able to continue the tradition of show pigs at the local, state and national level. After exhibiting my swine project at the Missouri State Fair for twelve years, I am officially too old to be in FFA, and I have had to face the reality of ending my show career.
Despite this, I am able to continue my involvement in the swine industry. Currently I am interning with the Missouri Pork Association, and am enjoying being a part of providing the pork industry with a voice. Also, this summer I will be serving as the marketing and communications intern with the National Swine Industry.
I could not be more excited to be a member of the CAFNR Corner Post staff again this semester!
