Where I Was, Where I’m At, and Where I’m Going
Hello CAFNR! My name is Lacy Fitzpatrick, and I am a freshman from Eldon, Missouri (that town you stop in to get gas on your way to Lake of the Ozarks). It may not be the biggest or the most interesting town, but it is where I call home.
My passion for agriculture started my freshman year of high school when I joined the Eldon FFA Chapter. Although I am only one generation removed from the farm — my grandfather raised cattle — I had never really been involved in agriculture. But FFA changed all of that. I learned about what an impact the agriculture industry has on our world and developed an enthusiasm for it. In the FFA, with the help of my advisers and friends, I was able to find and develop talents that I never knew I had. My teammates and I went on to become four-time state champions and two-time national champions, and are competing for our third national title this October. I also began working at Turkey Hill Ranch Bible Camp in Vienna, Missouri, during the summers, where I had the privilege of being involved in the stables operation and ranch hand program. Agriculture is now an immensely important part of my life, and I want to share that with others.
I am currently an agriculture major, but I am taking classes in science and agricultural journalism, agricultural education, hospitality management and business management because I have no idea what I want to do with my life. Where will I end up? Only God knows that.
So for now, I am simply going to try my hand at this whole writing thing. I am looking forward to writing for CAFNR Corner Post, as it gives me practical experience in the methods and styles of the journalism industry. I cannot wait to see what this semester has in store for me.
