My name is Deja Shelby. I am currently a senior at the University of Missouri majoring in Agriculture. I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. The youngest of five siblings, I am only the second of my siblings to go to college. Growing up everybody always asked me what I wanted to do when I got older.
As I have grown, animals, agriculture and helping others have been my ultimate three loves. Coming to Mizzou, I knew CAFNR was the college for me. Whether life pulls me to the Veterinary track that I strive to reach or to simply promoting agriculture, I know that as long as I am helping in a positive way, I will be completely satisfied.
After graduation I plan to apply all the skills that I have received at Mizzou and take them into my future career. I am really interested in traveling and other cultures and hope to one day work in another country. Being from the city, many argue that I have no true understanding of agriculture; however, I plan to prove all my critics wrong and show them that you can be from the city and completely have as much passion and love for agriculture and rural life as the people who grew up in that environment.
I am really looking forward to writing for the Corner Post this semester and having a chance to get my voice heard as well as getting a more hands-on experience in writing. I feel writing for Corner Post this semester will be very beneficial to my future endeavors, and I plan to take advantage of every part of it. Mizzou has truly been the time of my life, and although I am close to graduating and starting my life, I will always be a Mizzou Tiger! “MIZ-ZOU”
