My name is Sarah Goellner, and I am currently a senior in the science and agricultural journalism program. I received my associate degree from Moberly Area Community College before transferring to MU. I grew up in Palmyra, Missouri, with my parents Bill and Nancy, and an older sister Rebecca.
Agriculture has deep roots in my family. My uncles’ and cousins’ farms surrounded my home, and I was always included in the daily activities. I was deeply involved 4-H and FFA throughout my childhood.
I have always had an interest in writing and journalism. From a young age, I knew that journalism was the right profession for me. Being able to combine agriculture with journalism for my college major and future career is important to me. CAFNR has been a perfect fit for me since my first day on campus.
I currently am an intern for two very interesting groups on campus. I work with the Interdisciplinary Plant Group, which is a member of the Division of Plant Sciences. I also am part of the team that works in the CAFNR International Programs office. These jobs have helped me gain invaluable experiences.
This is my first time editing for Corner Post, and I am already amazed by the experience. I get the chance to work with an amazing group of young writers as they begin their journey into the world of science and agricultural journalism.
After graduation, I hope to be able to communicate and market the field of agriculture to a large audience. The fields of advertising, marketing, social media and public relations all have caught my eye in the last few semesters at MU. I have found a deep passion for agricultural law and policy, along with public relations and marketing agricultural products. I am excited to see where my job search will take me in the next few months as my time at MU comes to a close.
