Blue Man Group is playing its way to the Mizzou Arena

Flying paint, banging PVC pipes and three blue men are coming to MU. The Blue Man Group will perform Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 8 p.m. in the Mizzou Arena. The group is touring in 105 cities in the United States performing their new show, How to be a Megastar 2.0, created to resemble a rock concert experience.
The group was created by three friends, Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink, in 1987. The Blue Man Group describes itself as, “a creative organization dedicated to creating excitement-generating experiences for our audience and ourselves.”
Their hour and 45 minute performance combines comedy, art, music, multimedia theatrics and flying paint. The group has recorded three CDs: Audio, The Complex and How to be a Megastar 2.0.
“I liked it because it is not your typical show,” said Suzie Shaffer, a freshman nuclear medicine major. “They use street things like trash can lids and broomsticks.”
The three blue men are entertaining on stage, creating intriguing sounds and art with unlikely instruments. Not only are lights flashing and the music beating, but the blue performers are captivating, their bodies are blue, and their bald heads are gleaming blue. It takes the group approximately one hour before each show to transform to blue, and they paint their heads with greasy blue paint which gives them that glossy look on stage, looking freshly painted.
“I saw them in New York City, they were awesome,” said Mike Howard, a sophomore nursing major. “They put paint in this big balloon, then shot it at a board and sold it to my friend for, like, fifty bucks. I laughed.”
Today, along with the tours, the Blue Man Group regularly performs in New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Berlin, Oberhausen and Orlando.
