True/False Film Festival featured more than just unique films

This year’s True/False Film Festival, held in late February/early March, featured award-winning documentaries, art exhibits, and even a contest for aspiring film makers, but nothing could compare to the likes of Caplee Spiller, otherwise know by his stage name, Timba Wulff.
The Cherry Street Artisan hosted many musical acts during the weekend. Timba Wulff performed live on Saturday night, March 1, in front of a surprisingly large crowd.
During the show, Timba Wulff, clad in a cowboy hat, boots, and a longhorn belt buckle, performed his solo act of real-life, satirist country songs. Most of his repertoire consisted of sarcastic love songs about former lovers to narratives about how he “shot a tornado.”
Leo Jallipalli, a friend of Spiller, was in attendance as he said he always is. He plays in a “living room” band with Spiller and says his favorite songs are “all of them.” This was evident during the show as Jallipalli sang along with every song Spiller performed.
In-between swigs of beer and rambling about the stories behind his songs, Spiller kept his audience intrigued. His foul mouth and never-ending humor kept not only his audience laughing, but himself as well.
“I like playing jokes on myself, too,” Spiller said. “There have been times when I will intentionally do something to make my audience wonder whether it’s for real or not. Only I know it is a joke, so it makes me laugh at them.”
He may have times when he laughs at himself, but he certainly showed his ability to keep his audience doing the same thing.
“He’s freaking hilarious,” said “MC” Kelly Betz, another follower of Timba Wulff. “I definitely relate to what he writes.”
Timba Wulff’s humor is nothing short of unordinary. Betz referred to it as “De Soto humor” that is built on absurdities. Many audience members claimed their favorite song to be “Tornado,” which reflects his anger towards an actual tornado that destroyed part of of De Soto, Mo., where the singer and his friends are from.
The singer/songwriter picked up the guitar about seven years ago and has been performing this act in similar small venues for a couple of years. Not only do his fans enjoy following him around to public performances, but they love his raw living room shows even more.
Spiller plans to continue his show, if not to entertain others, then to have fun himself.
“I love people,” Spiller said. “But, there’s nothing better than to see how I can make myself laugh even more.”
Josh Steinmetz, also from De Soto, summed up the general feelings of fans:
“He’s the funniest man in the Universe,” Steinmetz said. “No one makes people laugh like he does.”
