- Injured birds often have been hit by cars.
- It is hard to tell the age of raptors; they are either juvenile or adult.
- It is hard to sex raptors, but females tend to be larger than males.
- Suggested guidebook: Sibley Guide to Birds, by David Allen Sibley.
- Good places around Columbia to see raptors: Eagle Bluffs.
- Kestrels and red tail hawks are most abundant raptors in this area.
- Raptors don’t live long in the wild. Raptors are lucky to live past their first birthday.
- 90 percent of Red Tail Hawks die their first year. If they make it past 1, then they have a life expectancy of 5 to 8 years.
