Monsanto executive to visit MU, interact with students and faculty
Allison Clarke
Brett Beggeman, executive vice president for the Monsanto Corporation in St. Louis, will visit MU Feb. 28 and March 1 as part of the CAFNR Executive-in-Residence program. Beggeman is an MU graduate and earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics. While on campus, he will speak to CAFNR classes, primarily agricultural economics courses, as well as host an open forum and small group discussion about international careers.
Students attending these sessions can gain insight about international careers and what employers look for in potential employees.
Kristen Smarr, CAFNR director of external relations, said the Executive-in-Residence program is, “a way for students to ask pointed questions and get direct answers.”
The group discussion, “Employer Perspectives on the Benefits of a Study Abroad Experience,” will be held over lunch, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Feb. 28, in 2-30 Agriculture Building. Students need to sign up in advance with Roy Robinson. Space is limited to 18 students.
The open forum, “International Careers with Monsanto,” will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Feb. 28, in 2-7 Agriculture Building.
“It’s unprecedented access to executives,” Smarr said of the program. “If students want to take advantage of it, they can meet these people in person, ask questions and get candid responses. Especially if you want to know what an industry is like or have an interest in an international career.”
In 1997, the Robert O. Reich family started the Executive-in-Residence program as a way to give faculty and students an opportunity to interact with high-level executives. Each semester, the program brings in two executives.
