Systems Management Club keeps lawnmowers a 'mowing' at the Annual
Spring Tune-Up

Members of
the Agriculture System Management (ASM) Club were revved up and
ready to go during its annual Spring Lawn Mower and Tiller Tune-up
Clinic on March 11. From nearly 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the students
were working hard to make sure every incoming mower was primped
to perfection.
“Waking
up at this hour helps to keep me in my routine,” MU senior
and ASM major, Doug Ludwig said. “It feels like a regular
day.”
For $30,
Columbia residents could bring in their lawnmower or tiller and
get a full tune-up, which included: a steam cleaning, a new spark
plug, a blade balancing and sharpening, an air filter cleaning,
and an oil change. Lawn mowers were dropped off on March 9-10
to ensure they’d be ready for inspection on the 11th. Pick
up dates were on March 13-14.
The proceeds
from the clinic help to pay for study abroad programs and spring
trips run by the ASM department.
“Doing
things like this is what makes all of our important trips possible,”
Ludwig said.
For those
who missed the first spring tune up, there will be a second one
on Saturday, April 8. Drop off dates will be on April 6-7, as
pick up times will on April 10-11. Likewise, the second clinic
will cost $30 and offer all of the same perks as the first one.
For more information, Columbia residents can call 882-2731.
Many say what makes
the ASM Club’s Spring Lawn Mower and Tiller Tune-up Clinic
so successful in the first place is the enthusiasm of the student
members involved.
“Every year
these students really step up,” Dr. Leon Schumacher, Professor
of Ag Systems Management said. “They really demonstrate
their ability to get a job done.”
