Students and faculty voice in on 'CAFNR Week'
By Taryn Dameron, posted 3/23/06
On Tuesday, March 14, the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) Week Steering Committee held their first CAFNR Week Town Hall. The meeting brought the students and faculty of the college together with the committee to discuss the problems and changes facing CAFNR Week in 2006.
The committee hoped to get input on how to improve events such as comedy night, skit night, and barnwarming. Ways to revise the points system, community service and education projects were also discussed.
The event subject to the most change in 2006 is Barnwarming. Paul Vaughn, associate dean of academic programs, has offered to pay for a formal dance located at the Reynold’s Alumni Center in place of the traditional casual dance. The idea behind this event was to reduce CAFNR liability and get faculty and alumni more involved. The general consensus from student input was that they preferred Barnwarming the way it is, however, all final decisions are up to the steering committee.
Students also expressed concerns about how to improve the educational events of the week that help students and community members outside CAFNR get a better understanding of agriculture. A parade was suggested as a way to make the week more widely recognized as well as banners throughout all areas of MU campus.
