The
Rodeo Club held their annual Stick Horse Rodeo Saturday Sept.
17, as a part of CAFNR Week. The competitions ranging from
roping to cider chugging, took place in Trowbridge’s
arena.
“We’ve
been holding the rodeo since I’ve been president.”
Julie Lesyna, Rodeo Club president, said. “It’s
about tradition,”
The
tradition was well-observed as contestants lined up for the
first contest. A line of flour marked the starting point on
the dirt floor stamped with cowboy boots, where straw bale
throwing took place. Participants took turns tossing 50-pound
bales hoping to outmatch the competition.
The
night closed on a good note, with “Sweet Home Alabama”
playing over the loud speakers. Team Sigma Alpha won the overall
competition.
Wade
Houston, a participant in the games, summarized the games’
spirit well. “It’s all about having a good time,”
he said.
Everything
ran smoothly and was enjoyed by both competitors and the audience.
“It
was a success,” Lesyna said.
