Final exam preparations
Laura Thornton, posted Dec. 7, 2006

As the semester draws to a close, everyone is trying to get in that last study hour, hoping to secure an A or B. Every night the dorm study rooms are filled with students preparing for finals.

"We're all freshman so the whole college finals is still new to us. We're freaking out big time," said Danica Friederich, a freshman living in Jones hall. Friederich and her friends have nightly study sessions with a special system set up. The girls work for 45 minutes then take a 15-minute break.

"It's a really good system. This way we don't get overloaded. The breaks are so that we can study longer and later," Friederich said. On their breaks the girls share snacks and gossip.

Not just in the dorms are people studying later these days. The library has special extended hours for finals week. From Dec. 3 to Dec. 14 the library is open until 2 a.m.

"Last year I got to the library at midnight one night in the middle of finals week and could hardly find a place to sit down," said sophomore Ben Eades. Eades was getting an early start this year studying at the library on Monday night, the week before finals. He was one of the many students planning to make good use of the 2 a.m. closing time.

If you're looking for a study break Sunday, Dec. 10, Missouri Student Unions, Student Living and Campus Dining are sponsoring a pancake breakfast in Brady Commons. They will be serving pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and orange juice from 10 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. Monday in the Brady cafeteria. The breakfast is free and all students ready for a break are encouraged to come. Aside from the breakfast on Sunday, Brady Commons and Memorial Union will be open 24-hours during finals week.

Good luck to all Mizzou students studying for their finals.
