Tensions
were high as teams faced off at the Agricultural Education
Society’s Knowledge Bowl competition Thursday, Sept.
28, an annual CAFNR Week event. Participants set at the edge
of their seats, buzzers clutched in hand, trying to win the
championship title for their organization. In the end, the
men of Alpha Gamma Rho walked away with smiles, knowing they
could be called CAFNR’s most knowledgeable.

“It was
fun to get to see the competition between the different teams
in CAFNR,” said Jessica Toombs, freshman Ag Ed Society
member.
Erin Carl, vice
president of the Ag Ed Society, described participation as
the same as previous years. Eight teams competed, with a total
of about 40 students. Alpha Gamma Rho, Sigma Alpha, GDI, Mizzou
FFA and Collegiate Farm Bureau were the organizations represented.
A few clubs had more than one team.
The single-elimination
tournament allowed students to see the vast amount of topics
covered throughout CAFNR. Dara Boardman, freshman Sigma Alpha
competitor said, “I learned a lot of diverse things
about agriculture from the Knowledge Bowl. I didn’t
realize the large amount of subjects we represent.”
Questions asked
covered the areas from agricultural systems management to
rural sociology and biotechnology to agricultural economics.
The Ag
Ed Society President, Jimmy McCormack, believes this event
is successful because of the diversity it addresses. “It
encourages students to be knowledgeable in all areas across
CAFNR.”
