Several thousand fans didn’t need or even have the chance to spend $250 on a ticket to be a part of history Friday night in downtown St. Louis. There was just as much excitement outside the stadium as there was inside it.

At the start of Game 5 of the 2006 World Series, the new Busch Stadium was filled to capacity at 46,638.

All of downtown St. Louis was filled with Cardinal spirit, including this hotel that put neon letters in its windows overlooking the stadium.

After the final out the crowd that had gathered outside the stadium erupted into a sea of frenzy over the St. Louis Cardinals being World Champions.

The gates were opened and the crowd outside was allowed to enter the stadium for the trophy presentation and relish in sites such as the center field scoreboard declaring the new world champions.

Thanks to several guards around the stadium the crowd stayed in control and the night went off without a glitch.

The streets filled with hundreds of cars honking their horns and fans hanging outside of their cars proudly declaring who the new world champs are.
