Wrapping
up CAFNR Week with the overall results

“I
felt it (CAFNR Week) went really well,” said Christopher
Nation, one of the tri-directors of the CAFNR Week steering
committee. “We were prepared for it thanks to a hard
working committee, and in return, it went smoothly.”
Nation said the committee could not have done a better job.
“Attendance was down at Comedy Night and Barnwarming,
but other events had the usual attendance and more,”
said Nation. He said he would like to improve Family Day by
moving it to Saturday and advertising more for next year.

CAFNR Week ended with the unveiling of the week’s winners
at Barnwarming, held at the Blue Note. A bit slow at first,
the crowd picked up as the music took over. Brandon Jenkins
and his band performed live at the event and stirred the crowd
into motion. The band was brought in from Texas, Nation said.
“Barnwarming was different, a good different. Brandon
Jenkins and his band did an excellent job and it was neat
that we could bring them in from Texas. Many people missed
out.”
As the night rolled on, the winners of the week were announced.
The Independent Aggies (GDI) won first place in the Change
Wars. They donated the money to St. Jude’s Children’s
Hospital. Winners of the week were Collegiate Farm Bureau
with third place, Alpha Gamma Sigma with second place and
Alpha Gamma Rho with first place. The CAFNR week King and
Queen were Michael Ockerhausen and Nichole Busdieker, both
representing Collegiate Farm Bureau.
“I
felt surprised when my name was called out, but mostly I felt
honored,” Ockerhausen said.
“It
was very exciting to be chosen CAFNR Barnwarming Queen. It
kind of adds a little something to my last year here at MU,”
Busdieker said. “It was a lot of hard work,” she
said, “but that was what made it fun. Looking back I
felt like the work paid off and am very happy with it.”
“I
had to make sure to get some studying done before my exams
and the lip sync preparation took a lot of time. Other preparations
were just making sure to take advantage in making the most
out of the week,” Ockerhausen said.
“We
wanted to show everyone that we were having ‘the time
of our lives’ so it took some practicing. It also took
a lot of time management,” Busdieker said.
An
overall great experience for both of them, they had ideas
of how CAFNR Week could be improved. “The current student
involvement is great but there could be more. I think some
CAFNR students fail to see how much fun the week can be when
they take advantage of getting involved. It is an opportunity
to have fun, meet other students and make memories,”
Ockerhausen said.
“I would just try and do more work to get them [people]
there. It is a blast and is even better when more of your
friends are there,” Busdieker said.
When
asked if they would do it again, “Definitely!”
Ockerhauser said. “If I could, I would.” Busdieker
said.
