Homecoming 2006 results

It was a cold and rainy night on Sunday Oct. 22, but that did not keep a mass of students from gathering in front of Jesse Hall to hear the homecoming results announced. May Ling Butterfield, a member of Kappa Delta, said, “Everyone was screaming and cheering on the different groups. It was really exhilarating and suspenseful.”

In the blood drive, third place for student organizations was given to the CAFNR Student Council. Second place went to the Alumni Association Student Board and first place went to Alpha Kappa Psi, business fraternity. For residence halls, Mark Twain came in third, Lathrop placed second and Schurz placed first. For Greek societies, third place went to Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Beta Sigma Psi. Second place went to Phi Mu and Pi Kappa Alpha. First place went to Kappa Delta and Alpha Gamma Rho.

For campus decorations, Phi Mu and Pi Kappa Alpha placed third. Kappa Kappa Gamma and Delta Upsilon tied Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Beta Sigma Psi for first place.

Those who received full points for homecoming merchandise were Phi Mu and Pi Kappa Alpha; Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Beta Sigma Psi; Alpha Delta Pi and Alpha Kappa Lambda; Kappa Delta and Alpha Gamma Rho.

In the parade, for student organizations, AASB placed third, Chi Alpha came in second, and CAFNR Student Council came in first. For residence halls, Pershing Area Council came in third, Schurz placed second and Johnston came in first. For Greek organizations, Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Alpha came in fifth. Kappa Delta and Alpha Gamma Rho came in fourth. Alpha Chi Omega, Phi Psi and Delta Chi came in third. Phi Mu and Pi Kappa Alpha came in second. Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Beta Sigma Psi won first place.

In the service section of homecoming for student organizations, the Newman Center came in third, Alpha Kappa Psi came in second and AASB won first. For residence halls, third place went to Mark Twain, in second place was Schurz and in first place was Gillette/Hudson.

The Greek pairings that received full points for service were: Alpha Chi Omega, Phi Kappa Psi and Delta Chi; Chi Omega and Phi Kappa Theta; Delta Gamma, Delta Tau Delta and Alpha Epsilon Pi; Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Beta Sigma Psi; Kappa Kappa Gamma and Delta Upsilon; Phi Mu and Pi Kappa Alpha; Zeta Tau Alpha, Sigma Nu and Delta Sigma Phi.

In the spirit division, for student organizations, the Newman Center placed third, Alpha Kappa Psi placed second and AASB placed first. For residence halls, the Pershing Area Council placed third, in second was Mark Twain and Gillette/Hudson won first. For Greek organizations, in third place was Kappa Delta and Alpha Gamma Rho. Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Beta Sigma Psi came in second. Phi Mu and Pi Kappa Alpha placed first.

For ‘In Between Acts,’ in third place was Kappa Sigma, in second place was MU’s drum line and in first place was Alpha Kappa Lambda.

In the talent division, Phi Mu and Pi Kappa Alpha placed third. Pi Phi and Kappa Alpha placed second. Gamma Phi Beta and Lambda Chi place first.

The last announcement of the night was the announcement of the overall winner. The overall winner for students’ organizations was Alpha Kappa Psi. The overall residence hall winner was Schurz. The overall winners for Greek pairings were Phi Mu and Pi Kappa Alpha.

Many groups stayed after the announcements to cheer and chant their victories for everyone to hear. Kelly Connett, a member of the parade committee for the Homecoming Steering Committee, said, “ Homecoming is a great way to show Mizzou spirit and involve not only the entire campus, but the Columbia Community as well. It is a tradition that was started at Mizzou and will continue on for many years to come.”
