Gearing up for CAFNR Week
Alyssa Famuliner, Posted Sep. 13, 2006

With excitement for CAFNR Week building, many changes are taking place. Last year’s name change from Ag Week to CAFNR Week won’t be the only difference. Changes include the selling of alcohol, the location of events and live entertainment.

Last year, students became very passionate about the changing of Ag Week to CAFNR week. A tri-director for CAFNR Week 2006, Chris Nation said, “Older students definitely cared more [about the change from Ag Week to CAFNR Week]. Freshman didn’t really know what was going on. Sophomores through seniors wondered why/how it got changed like that. I’m a stickler for tradition and hated to see it change too.” The change was made in order to help get students from the entire college to participate more in the week’s activities.

The 2006 CAFNR Week Steering Committee in a letter to the CAFNR Students said, “We chose to make these events alcohol-free to prevent accidents, increase participation and reduce liability.” In the past alcohol has been for sale to those 21 years of age during Skit Night and Barnwarming. Nation said, “Some people are against it and don’t like it. That goes with change. People don’t like change. I think it’ll be better off in the long run.”

0n Sept. 9 CAFNR students will have entertainment provided by Brandon Jenkins and his band singing their "red dirt" country music at the annual Barnwarming. This year, Barnwarming will be held at the Blue Note from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Another tri-director for CAFNR Week 2006, Allyssa Berry said, “It is true that CAFNR Week has changed quite a bit over the past couple of years, but our purpose is still the same: to create a celebration of agriculture, food and natural resources in which the students, faculty and community can take part."
