Great
Pumpkin Carving

The smell of pumpkins was overwhelming on Oct. 30 in Brady
Commons. The annual Great Pumpkin Carving this year provided
300 free pumpkins to students from Campus Activities Programming
and MU Student Life, according to Assistant Director of the
Department of Student Life, Kathy Murray. MU Student Life,
Missouri Student’s Association and Graduate Professional
Council put on the Great Pumpkin Carving. Murray said that
depending on the year, they supply as many as 600 pumpkins.

“I work for Mizzou After Dark, and they thought they
needed extra help because last year they were really busy
at the pumpkin carving. It won’t be busier this year
because there have been multiple pumpkin carving events already,”
said Stephanie Isaacson, freshman at MU. This year, they went
through the 300 pumpkins by 7 p.m., according to Murray.
“I came last year, and it was a lot of fun. I like their
patterns because there is a good variety. Plus, you can’t
beat free pumpkins,” said Catherine Bohnert, a graduate
student at MU.
Noel Walker, junior at MU, said the Great Pumpkin Carving
is a good opportunity, especially for the students who have
never carved a pumpkin before.
