The CAFNR Student Development Board, along with CAFNR Ambassadors, thanked Columbia donors of the college Thursday evening, with the second annual "Boo from Mizzou!"
Dressed in Mizzou apparel and toting wooden ghosts and pumpkins, students visited 11 donor's homes, delivering thanks with cards and fall arrangements potted in plastic jack-o-lanterns. The flowers were assembled by CAFNR's Tiger Garden.
"This is the nicest thing that has happened to me for days," donor Anna Margaret Fields said.
According to Kristen Smarr, director of external relations for CAFNR, the 11 donors selected were chosen based on location, allowing the students to reach as many donors as possible in the allotted time.
Beginning as a CAFNR Ambassador event, the Student Development Board joined the activity this year, Smarr said.
According to Smarr, the idea for "Boo from Mizzou" began two years ago, when Bee Smith, supporter of the college, fell ill. Smarr said Smith had a Halloween party every year for the students, and as a tradition, she would festively paint hay bails. When Smith became ill, students of the college painted the hay bails for her. The following year, Smarr said, students wanted to do something similar to the previous year.
"We thought it would just be fun. Our students like to engage with our donors," Smarr said.
Senior Student Ambassador Heidi Griswold spoke of the importance of the event.
"A lot are scholarship donors and it's a big thing because I get scholarships and it's a good way to meet the donors," Griswold said.
Students ended the evening with free food and games at T.K. Brothers restaurant.
