CAFNR Week deemed a success, plans for next year in works
By Erin Meyers

With a new name and several added activities, CAFNR Week ended successfully Thursday, September 29, with the annual Barnwarming dance.

“I think it was more successful than we expected,” said Jesse Bradley, CAFNR Week Tri-Director. “Everyone we talked to had a good time”.

Previously known as Ag Week, the name change came with the hopes of increasing the number of Food and Natural Resource students to attend the events. Posted on the CAFNR Week website, the goal of CAFNR Week is “To celebrate and educate Mizzou students and Columbia at large about the contributions that agriculture, food and natural resources give to Missouri”.

According to Katie Molloy, CAFNR Week Tri-Director, a public relations committee placed ads in local newspapers, handed out fliers and hung up signs advertising CAFNR Week.

Molloy said despite their efforts, there was not an increase of students that participated in the events compared to past years.

According to Bradley, the Food and Natural Resource students were not represented at the events.

“They were welcomed, they just chose not to go,” Bradley said.

Along with the name change, there were several new events added to the annual event. Included was a food drive for the Central Missouri Food Bank, a barbeque lunch for students and faculty, and CAFNR Connections, a career fair for CAFNR Students.

Bradley said she hopes these new events will open the doors for new things to come.

When asked about speculations of the cancellation of next year’s CAFNR Week, Dr. Bruce Bullock, Agriculture Economics professor and Faculty Advisor of the CAFNR Week committee, responded, “They know something I don’t”.

Bradley said she doesn’t foresee the cancellation of CAFNR Week, and says the Tri-Directors plan to send out applications for new directors.

“We’re going to do our part to keep the ball rolling,” Bradley said.
