MU iLife Challenge awards students' potential
By Reva Brant, posted 12/02/05

Tuesday, Nov. 28, was a night of laughs and awards inside Conservation auditorium. The ceremony, sponsored by the University of Missouri School of Journalism and Apple, honored and showcased the work of those that participated in the freshman iLife challenge. The contest was designed to introduce freshman to the iLife software available to those with Apple computers.

The iLife software the participants were required to use included iPhoto, Garage Band, iDVD, and iMovie.  Across campus, Freshman Interest Groups or FIGs, were mandated to participate in the challenge.  The project consisted of video taping footage and using still photos, creating music, and finally, making the project into a movie.  This year there were five categories: MU life, sports, advertising, arts and culture, and news.  This was the second year for the challenge, which came back with even better incentives for the winners.

“They gave away great prizes and showed a great view of what MU students are capable of,” Samantha Aiossa, MU freshman said.

As students entered the door, they were handed a numbered ticket for door prizes. Some of the prizes included Adobe software, Macromedia, iTunes gift certificates, wireless mice and MU basketball tickets.

“It was funny,” Ali Milano, freshman in the Women in Journalism FIG stated.

The master of ceremonies for the night was Comedy Wars.  They put on a few impromptu skits and announced the winners of every category.  After the winners in each category were announced, their videos were viewed and the auditorium was frequently filled with laughing students and faculty.
