MU women learn leadership potential
Melissa Clark, Corner Post Staff
February 8, 2004 - What does it take to be a leader? Several
of MU's female leaders discovered their leadership ability and potential
at the 5th annual Women's Leadership Conference.
While learning about how to maintain stress, creating a better community,
managing your finances, or stopping domestic violence, students gained
better knowledge of how to prepare themselves for the future.
"Our theme is 'Like Tomorrow, Like Today' and people can interpret that
in many ways and we hope that students are able take it into a direction
that works for them," Patrice Hutton, sophomore social work major and
one of the coordinators of the event said.
"Overall we hope that females come away with a positive attitude about
women and leadership and they had a good experience and are more confident
and inspired to be continue the journey of leadership."
Another coordinator comments about the student's energy while helping
out with event.
"Basically what I got was a different perspective," Nicole Hutton, a senior
majoring in social work, said.
"You can learn about women's issues and women leadership simultaneously
and have the same goals with different walks of life."
"I'm really energized about all the positive energy," Hutton said. "Everyone
seems to be really happy to be here. It's really encouraging to see women
trying to get into leadership positions and interested in helping other
women become leaders. I love the fact everyone is really positive."
