Stopping the Violence Against Women
Meghan Stewart, Corner Post Staff

February 22, 2004 - V-Day at Mizzou ended its weeklong activities with "The Vagina Monologues" on Friday the 20 and Saturday the 21 at Jesse Hall. This year 48 University of Missouri's students, faculty, and staff preformed the 22 different monologues.

"I loved the show and what it stood for and I wanted to do my part in helping," said Kati Blair, 'The Women Who Loved to Make Vaginas Happy,' performer.

"I feel very strongly about stopping the violence against women around the world," said Laura Avery performer of 'Smell List.' "I have had family and friends who have been abused; it is a horrible thing that no one should have to go through. We have the right to be individuals and the sexual beings we are meant to be.

All proceeds from "The Vagina Monologues" goes to local women's organizations in and around the Columbia area. This is the fourth year for MU to sponsor "The Vagina Monologues." It started in Memorial Union, then moved to Anheuser Busch Conservation Hall and is now home to Jesse Hall where it hopes to stay and grow.

"After hearing that all the money goes to help women I knew this was something that I wanted to help with and be a part of," Said performer of "I Asked a Six Year Old Girl," Mary Struble a.k.a. Struby. "It gives you such immediate gratification knowing that what you are doing is helping someone else is worth all the time and effort that you put into the show."

The show had a special ending this year presenting special women with the recognition of being a "Vagina Warrior" one who fights to end violence against women.
