Sigma Alpha holds their first Women's Symposium
Meghan Stewart, Corner Post Staff

February 16, 2004 - It is all about the women in Sigma Alpha, a professional women's agriculture sorority, here at MU. On March 18th, they are having their first Women in Agriculture Symposium at the Adams Conference Center.

Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. Then there will be a catered dinner at 6:30, followed by the featured speaker, Cyndi Young, News Director for the Brownfield Network.

"We are working really hard to start traditions and become more well known on campus and around the area," agricultural journalism major Megan Cooper said.

Sigma Alpha has been a national organization for many years but just got its charter here at Mizzou a couple of years ago. Their national philanthropy is Ag in the Classroom and through their philanthropy and events like the Women in Agriculture Symposium they hope to not only further educate themselves but the public as well about agricultural issues.

"This is the first year for Sigma Alpha to host the Women in Agriculture Symposium," First Vice-President Jessica Lehenbauer said. "Our chapter has worked hard these past weeks to bring this event to campus. We are hoping for a huge success and a start for a new tradition for our chapter. This event will not only help our chapter but women in agriculture and the community."
