ALOT about Kristin Perry March 30, 2004 - Mizzou's Block and Bridle and Alpha Zeta honor fraternity joined together to listen to a women who is working to direct agriculture to a positive future. That woman is Mrs. Kristin Perry. Perry is the Executive Director of the ALOT, Agriculture Leaders Of Tomorrow, program. ALOT is a program designed to help its members understand more than the farm in agriculture. It allows its members to see first hand where Missouri agriculture is headed, its diversity, and the challenges that it faces. Perry is also the President of Perry Agriculture Laboratory, Inc. At Perry Labs soil, feed, fertilizer, water, and plant tissues are analyzed to help farmers know what they need to improve what they have. Perry spoke to the students about the future of agriculture. She spent much of her time talking about what role she sees them playing in the future. "What kind of image are you showing?" Perry asked. Perry stressed that every time that Agriculture students walk down the sidewalks or through the buildings that they are displaying agricultures finest. She reminded the group that most students don't know what a farmer is and explaining how they can't get past the stereotypical farmer. Perry also talked about genetically modified organism labeling, urban vs. rural individuals and she explained how she thought students could start making a difference. "You have to get involved, know what is going on, be more professional, and make sure that you are heard." Perry said. She encouraged the students to do all that they could to know what it going on because it is "our future that we are talking about." "Be proud of what we do, think about it, work together, and be advocates." Perry is an advocate for Missouri agriculture, the University of Missouri, and CAFNR students. She says she's working here and now for the future of agriculture.
