Jamie Reading, Corner Post Staff

March 11, 2004 - Bill Newham, Vice President/Publishing Director of Vance Publishing Food Systems Group, came to MU to talk to Sharon Wood-Turley's Ag Journalism 320 class. Newham's topic of conversation was over research and his experience in research in his career and with Vance Publishing.

Newham oversees six magazines at Vance Publishing which include: Drovers, Pork, Swine Practitioner, Bovine Veterinarian, Dairy Herd Management and Meat and Seafood Merchandizing.

Newham is a Mizzou Alumni and has served on the Ag Alumni Board for six years.

"Since graduating from the University, I felt staying connected with Mizzou is very important and something that should remain important," Newham said. "Also, I am a big Tigers fan."

Vance Publishing invests $10,000 annually to help fund the Ag Journalism program, which is used in various parts throughout the program.

"Ag Journalism is an important program to me and it is a direct importance to Vance since graduates of that program have a possibility to train and work with Vance Publications," Newham said.

Newham also interviewed four students for an internship opportunity this summer at Vance Publishing.

"Interviewing with Vance Publishing not only helped me prepare for other interviews but also gave me an in depth look at the amount of respect alumni have for this program," Sara Brown, senior agricultural journalism major, said.
