NAMA Ranked 3rd April 23, 2004- National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) teams from across the U.S. including two from Canada, battled it out in Kansas City, Mo. for the chance to be the nation's top collegiate agri-marketing team. MU's NAMA team made it to the final four and was ranked third overall. In all, there were 31 team competing. MU's NAMA team's product was called Liberty, which was patterned by Pony Express Brewing Co. based in Olathe, Kan., a microbrewery for soy beer. "We looked for the most exiting new Ag product, we didn't even consider anything else this year," David Lehman, NAMA advisor, said. The team started working together and getting their presentation together at the start of the winter semester. The team of seven with four assistants put together a twenty minute power point presentation of how they were going to market "Liberty" and where they were going to distribute their soy beer. NAMA ended up presenting three times that day to battle for the top four teams. "When they were announcing the four teams to make it to the finals, we were the last school to be called, the moment they said University of Missouri, it was all so surreal," Lynette Reed, NAMA presenter, said. NAMA hasn't done this well since 1994, when that NAMA team was ranked fourth overall. "Hopefully it will generate some excitement and give next years team some confidence," Reed said.
