Kansas City Sports Trust gives Mizzou athletics $10 million gift
Ryan Maris, Corner Post Staff

March 11, 2004 - Taylor Complex and other parts of the Missouri Athletic program received a $10 million donation from Kansas City Sports Trust to make renovations, pay for scholarships, and to keep operations going for the sports teams.

The donation is intended "to assist the athletic department as it continues to provide opportunities for student-athletes." Eight or nine million dollars will be used towards the Taylor Complex, across from Faurot Field on Providence Road, where athletes train, study, eat and have locker rooms. There will be a new weight room and the old weight room will be renovated to a new dining hall.

There are 475 student athletes at Mizzou, all who make use of the complex during their training. The new weight room will be two stories, and 15,000 square feet, an increase of 2,000 square feet from the old one. It will face Providence Road with many large windows. The dining hall now will change to the offices for football coaches when renovations are done.

Construction should start in the spring of 2005 and be completed by August of 2006, in time for the opening of the Tigers 2006 football season.

Athletic Director Mike Alden said Taylor Complex will be one of the top three or four complexes in the Big 12 upon completion.

The donors wanted to remain anonymous and have no ties to the donation, as it is just a gift, and they are receiving nothing from it. This is the third largest donation ever given to MU.
