CAFNR
students earn FFA Awards
Tyne Morgan and Tyler Francis of the University of Missouri-Columbia, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources received awards of proficiency at the 77th Missouri Future Farmers of America Convention held April 21-22 at the Hearnes Center on the MU campus. Tyler Francis was named the state winner of the Diversified Crop Production Placement Award. He worked for his family farm to complete his supervised agricultural experience requirement. He was in charge of preparing the soil for spring planting and maintaining equipment for the fall harvest. Francis was also responsible for shredding and cutting corn stalks with a disk to ease their decomposition as well as cutting winter forage for farm animals. Francis plans to use his farm experience and his college education to start his own business in the future.
Tyne Morgan was named state winner of the Agricultural Communication Proficiency Award. She worked at KMZU Radio as a Farm Broadcasting intern to complete her supervised agricultural experience. She interviewed youth and agriculture leaders across the state while providing second commodity updates and farm market commentary. Morgan also gained public speaking experience through her participation in the Governor’s Youth Cabinet and work at the MU Conference Office. Morgan plans to apply for a national award. This is a highly competitive
award program, as only four applicants across the United States are recognized
from each proficiency area. As a finalist, Morgan would have the opportunity
to qualify for a trip to Costa Rica.
