Kings and queens out for night on town
By Meghan Stewart, Corner Post staff

The queens and kings were out for the evening of April 12, drag queens and kings that is. Triangle Coalition, MSA/GPC and Mizzou After Dark hosted the second annual Trading Faces Drag Show at Jesse Auditorium.

The show featured Ms. Coco Peru from the movies Trick and Girls Will Be Girls. Along with Ms. Peru were some of Columbia’s own; Athena Voce, the reigning Miss Gay Missouri, Iatta Buffet, The Como Homo’s, China, and others. Ms. Voce and Ms. Buffet were not only the lovely hosts but they also performed along with the other drag queens and kings. They lip synched and danced to the theme song like “Grease” and Jennifer Lopez’s “Get Right.”

Rikva Hogan, physics major at the University of Missouri said, “It was amazing!”

“It was unique,” said Heather Bashaw. “I have never seen anything like that before. It was my first drag show. I was definitely entertained for the last couple hours. It was wildly entertaining.”

Proceeds from the drag show will go to Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) of Central Missouri. RAIN is a not-for-profit organization that helps with the care and support of people living with HIV/AIDS.

“I thought it went very well and was very glad to see that there were a lot of people here,” Nissa Wallinga said. “I had a lot of fun and plan on coming back next year.”
