Cooper takes next step towards career success
By Tyne Morgan, Corner Post staff
Megan Cooper, a junior majoring in agricultural journalism at the University
of Missouri-Columbia will intern with Monsanto for the 2005 summer.
As the marketing intern, Cooper will travel across central and southern Illinois
speaking with growers about Roundup Ready Corn and the Roundup Ready Rewards
Program.
“I will be taking testimonials back to the folks at Osborn & Barr and
working them into our new advertising campaigns,” Cooper said. “I
will also be establishing some of my own marketing and, of course, posting field
signs.”
During Cooper’s duties as the marketing intern, her plans and goals include
gaining a better understanding of what Monsanto has to offer and developing
relationships with the growers in the area.
Having goals for an internship is important for Cooper, since she plans on
taking this experience to the next level.
“Hopefully, I will find a place for some full-time employment,” Cooper
said.
This is not the first internship for Cooper. She has also interned with University
of Missouri Extension Services, USDA, Syngenta Seeds, Missouri Soybean Association
and Dairy Farmers of America.
Cooper was introduced to the Monsanto internship at John Brown Scholars. With
many experiences under Cooper’s belt, she has found ways like this to
discover these opportunities.
“Network—attend conventions like AFA, ACT, NAFB and apply for programs
like John Brown and Dickinson Scholars. In this industry, it’s all about
who you know,” Cooper said.
Cooper is ready to take on this step and looks forward to many aspects of the
job.
“I am ready to be out of an office setting and getting out, talking to
growers to find out ways to better serve them with our products,” said
Cooper.
Cooper will reside in Effingham, Il., for the duration of the internship.
