Agricultural
symposium to be hosted by Sigma Alpha
By Tyne Morgan, Corner Post staff
Sigma Alpha, a professional
agricultural sorority, is hosting an event to which all CAFNR students
and staff are invited. The second annual “Agriculture
Symposium” will be held at 6:30 p.m., April 6, 2005, in Eckles
Hall at the University of Missouri -Columbia.
The event begins with a dinner, but the highlight of the night will be
the guest speaker, Gina Bowman-Morrill. She will be speaking on “A Blueprint
for Life - Making a Difference.” Bowman will speak from the various experiences
she has had with the agricultural industry. She worked for Farmland Industries,
Inc., for 23 years, and recently she created and currently serves as chairperson
of the Agriculture Business Council of Kansas City.
Bowman is also active in the political world. She served on Missouri Governors
Carnahan and Holden’s Task Force on Agriculture. Now, she is a member
of the agricultural advisor task force for US Senators Kit Bond, Jim Talent,
Pat Roberts and US Representative Sam Graves.
With all of Bowman’s experiences, she was recognized in 2003 for her
leadership by the National Association of State Cooperative Councils and then
in 2004 by the Kansas Cooperative Council.
Tickets for this event are $15, which includes the meal and speaker. Also,
door prizes will be given away at the event. For tickets or for more information
you may contact President Tiffany Crews at tdc4g5@mizzou.edu or former President
Morgan Scheiderer at masc46@mizzou.edu.
