Wildlife
Society
By
Tyne A. Morgan, Corner Post staff
The Wildlife Society has 64 current members who work together to develop
and promote sound stewardship of wildlife resources and environments.
The organization meets every other Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in 115 ABNR.
“I joined as a freshman and was hooked immediately,” said President
Nick Cahill. “This organization is involved with so much and the great
part about most of the activities we do is that it can transfer to your resume.
In the field of wildlife there is no better way to get a jump on a career than
to join the Wildlife Society, because we are a part of an international organization
that is recognized by many agencies and private companies.”
An accomplishment this year for the Society was initiating a burn plan on the
Baskett Wildlife area. The group also participated in the international society
meeting in Calgary, Alberta, attended the Missouri Natural Resources Conference,
funded members to take the wilderness first responder course, participated
in the MO TWS field day, held the Society’s annual deer drive and winter
bird count, held several mammals programs, cleaned up their section of I-70,
worked deer check stations and volunteered for quail covey counts
Although the group has had a busy year, they do not plan to stop there. The
Wildlife Society also will plant trees for MDC, host the annual Dunmire lecture
and hold a Baskett clean-up day.
The officers that are leading the Society for the ’04-’05 academic
year are Cahill as President, Vice President Stephanie Johnston, Treasurer
Andrea Miller, Historian Amber Edwards and the CAFNR Student Council Representatives
are Braden Kuhlmann, Katie Langhammer and Bethany Myer. The advisor is Rochelle
Renken, a MDC biologist.
If you are interested in this organization, you may still join. Contact Nicholas
