For the students, by the students
CAFNR Student Council
By Tyne A. Morgan, Corner Post staff
An organization that is comprised of students and works for the best
interests of the students is the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural
Resources Student Council.
"The goal of CAFNR Student Council is to work for the students of CAFNR,” said
Gretchen Stiefel. “We strive to improve the lives of our students through
emphasis areas of development and relations as well maintain a strong student
body through recruitment."
To achieve this goal, the Student Council is comprised of 45 members who work
together and represent all majors and organizations in CAFNR. Elections are
held in November for Student Council representatives. Then members meet every
Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. in 2-7 of the Ag building.
"Student Council is a great organization because it brings together the
diversity of our college into one organization,” said Stiefel. “Our
membership comprises every major, class, and organization in CAFNR so that we
may work for all students. This variety in our membership gives up a broad perspective
on the issues and lives of our students."
Student Council has various upcoming events to keep the organization busy.
Student Council participates bi-annually in the fall and spring Preview Mizzou,
as well as Fall Round-up and participating in community service projects, like
Adopt-A-Highway. Student Council puts together events for CAFNR Week, formally
known as Ag Week, every year. Since the new year for Student Council recently
began in January, the group still has many events that are being planned like
some student/faculty social events.
The advisors of CAFNR Student Council are Jim Spain and David Trinklein.
