What is the Dickinson Center all about?

January 28, 2004 - The Gary L. Dickinson Center, also known as the Student Achievement Center, has been up and running for one year. The center is named for the Dickinson family who donated the money for it to be built.

February 1, 2004 - The Missouri Farmers Union hosted its fifth annual state convention January 30 and 31 at the Ramada Inn in Columbia, Missouri. This year's theme was "Rural Missouri-New Visions at the Crossroads" and focused on the revitalization of rural communities, and the protection of family farm agriculture.

Applications are available at the Tom Taylor Football Facilities and are due the February 27th. Tigers outgun Cowboys in double-overtime

February 26, 2004 - Missouri needed this game desperately. The Tigers (14-10, 8-5 Big 12) have played one of the toughest schedules in the country this season, but before Tuesday's game, the Tigers had little to show for it. The victory over Oklahoma State (21-3, 11-2 Big 12) represented Missouri's first win in five tries against RPI Top 25 teams and it was also just their second victory against teams in the Top 50.

Basketball Arena Naming Sparks Controversy

April 23, 2004- National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) teams from across the U.S. including two from Canada, battled it out in Kansas City, Mo. for the chance to be the nation's top collegiate agri-marketing team. MU Receives Immense Donation from Gust Family

April 27, 2004 - Frozen DNA could unlock the secrets to better beef - and MU researchers could help lead the way. MU officials announced that a $5.6 million-dollar donation was being given to the Animal Science Research center to fund some very important livestock research by The David Gust family, owners of Circle A Ranch in Iberia, Mo. May 1, 2004 - On April 30, 2004 at Reynolds Alumni Center, an announcement was made to recognize Mary Agnes and Al McQuinn for establishing a $5 million challenge gift to the College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources. The $5 million dollar gift is going to the McQuinn Fund for Academic Excellence, a scholarship fund for students who demonstrate academic excellence. (full story here)

BSE Hits Close To Home

On December 23rd, 2003 a single Holstein cow in Washington State was said to be infected with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). Since it was the first case detected in the United States, it proved to have a huge impact on both the beef industry and consumers.

Despite receiving emails from the Dean’s Office encouraging students to get involved in the election, the response was less than enthusiastic. Fewer than five percent of CAFNR students showed up at the polls during the two day voting period.

March 5, 2004 - According to Alumni Association, "The University of Missouri-Columbia and the University of Kansas are known to be opponents since 1907." In addition, they are noted "the second oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi" and they have traditionally attempted to prove their strength by battling each other in sports competitions. Men's Basketball closes out disappointing season at National Invitation Tournament

March 11, 2004 - Basketball season is over. It's been a long road for the men's team this season, fighting through injuries and intense pressure to succeed. Starting the year ranked nationally as high as third, it was a tough billing to live up to. (full story here)

Mizzou was ranked 33rd in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Poll and 26th in the ESPN/Sports Weekly Poll. This was before the loss to Illinois State but the Tigers look to rebound within the next week. (full story here)

Baseball Tigers Drop to Two Wins and Four Losses in Big 12

April 5, 2004 - Mizzou dropped to 21 wins, eight losses, and one tie Sunday as they lost the final game of their second Big 12 series. That gives them two wins and four losses. (full story here)

Bats ice cold like the weather, Tigers fall to Illinois State

As the Tigers came home for a four-game home stand, they dropped the first game to the Illinois State Redbirds, five to four in eleven innings. In a game where Coach Tim Jamieson said, "The only three good swings we had were the three hits," the Tigers held Illinois State scoreless through seven and two-thirds innings. (full story here)

Six Football Tigers sign NFL contracts

April 27, 2004 - By Monday night, six Mizzou football players had signed NFL contracts with four different teams. They will report to their respective mini-camps Thursday as they prepare to try and make the cut into professional football. (full story here)
