MSO Fast-A-Thon Many
Muslim and non-Muslim participants came together on the Mizzou
campus Friday, date, for one cause – fighting hunger. The
Muslim Student Organization held their first Ramadan Fast-A-Thon
benefiting the Central Missouri Food Bank. About 20 non-Muslim participants abstained from eating and drinking from sunrise
to sunset Friday and broke their fast with a banquet at Memorial Union. Five
local businesses donated money to the food bank for each participant. Could you
please name some of the businesses who donated? Ramadan is the Islamic holy month of fasting. This year, Ramadan is from October
15 to November 14. The Muslim Student Organization invited people of other faiths
to fast with them to raise hunger awareness. “We experience the hunger,” said Ghanimah Al Otaibi, the public relations
chair for MSO. “When you fast with us, you will too.” “It’s always nice to step outside your original beliefs and try something
new,” said Slenker, who comes from a Christian background. “It’s
for a good cause.” The organization has 50-60 graduate and undergraduate members, said Adam Behsudi,
MSO president. It is a national organization, and most chapters hold a fast or
similar event each year.
