Round
'Em Up Every year the CAFNR Student Council holds a Fall Round-Up to let freshman and transfer students know what organizations are available to them. This year the event was at 5:30 p.m., Thursday Sept. 9, 2004, in the new Life Sciences Center and was deemed a success by Jared Verdaught, President of CAFNR Student Council.
Dr. Jim Spain, Interm Assistant Dean of CAFNR, began the evening by welcoming the students. “Each of knows the difference between a KU cheerleader and an Angus heifer… about 50 pounds,” Spain said. Representatives from Tyson provided a tasty meal and hurled rubber chickens into the crowd. A majority of CAFNR organizations were represented at the event. Each club provided students with information about themselves and encouraged people to join or at least come to a meeting. “It has broadened my horizons about the different organizations and clubs,” said Matt Osborn, a freshman who attended the round-up. Cord Jenkins, a coordinator of Fall Round-Up, said he was pleased with the turnout of about 250 to 300 students attending. When asked what it takes to prepare for this every year he said that it takes a lot of planning, coordination and help. “I’m thankful that I had a great committee,” Jenkins said. The Missouri Corn Growers Association and Missouri Farm Bureau also
helped sponsor the event. Without them the 2004 Fall Round-Up would
not have been possible.
