Help Wanted: Students are Needed for Campus Employment With goals from paying bills and meeting new people to filling large blocks of free time and getting the most from financial aid awards, many MU students seek employment on campus. Campus Career Services helps students find jobs year-round through their website and individual career counseling. “The Career Center’s main goal is to help students and community members with employment issues,” said one employee. MU offers students both part-time and Federal Work Study positions on campus. Part-time jobs are open to any student, while FWS is considered a financial aid award, based on demonstrated financial need. “I used the Career Center website to find my job,” said freshman Laura Denker. “I really enjoy my work study job. Working in the Ag building helped me feel more comfortable on campus and meet new people.” Denker works roughly eight hours each week, doing office work such as filing and typing. On-campus jobs are available in many different areas, from working in the Meat Lab in Eckles Hall to filing paperwork in Jesse Hall to serving other students in the dining halls. Some jobs require a specific major or area of study, as well as a certain number of completed credit hours. However, most are open to any student. The Federal Government pays the salaries of work study students, most of who receive near seven dollars per hour. Par-time job payment ranges from minimum wage of $5.50 per hour to more than seven dollars per hour for some positions. Team Mizzou Student Employment open recruitment will also be held October 4th and 5th from 6:00 to 6:45 pm in Wrench Auditorium.
