Tiger Football heads into more conference play with 2 wins
By Ryan Maris, Corner Post Staff

September 21, 2004 - Three weeks into the season and the Tigers are almost at the point many expected them to be, undefeatable champions. That is, only if you take out the week where the Tigers suffered a huge defeat when they played against Troy State. Without the tough loss against the opposing Troy State, Mizzou has beaten Arkansas State and Ball State a combined 100 to 20, leaving them an excellent season record of 2-1.

Troy State game recap:
The Tigers led early, jumping up 14 to zero on Troy State and then never saw pay-dirt again. Troy State used a trick play, a fumble with a recovery by an offensive lineman, and finally something that looked like real football to score 24 points. They sent Mizzou packing on their way to the long trip back to Columbia.

Arkansas State game recap:
Even though Mizzou gave up over 400 yards of offense to the Arkansas State Indians, the Tigers did score 52 points of their own and won 52-20,. The win helped maintain their preseason ranking of 17 .

Ball State game recap:
Although the defense had it rough throughout the season, they managed to come back during the September 18 game against Ball State with a little something to prove to themselves and the fans. They did just that by, giving up less than 150 yards total to the Ball State Cardinals and shutting them down with a score of 48-0.

After only getting a field goal in the first quarter of the Ball State game, the Tigers hit the end zone four times to make it 31 -0 at halftime. The Tigers looked to be in late-season form as they scored at will on the Cardinal defense.

With a field goal and another touchdown run by junior Damien Nash in the third quarter, the score was 41-0 . William Franklin, true freshman receiver, then scored with nine minutes left on a 41-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Brandon Coleman, who played during most of the fourth quarter for junior Brad Smith.

Latest stats:
So far this season, Mizzou has passed 735 yards, mostly by Brad Smith, and ran 578 yards . The rushing leader is Damien Nash with 264 yards. Junior Sean Coffey leads all receivers with 200 yards this season..

The Tiger defense has taken five balls out of the air. Senior James Kinney leads the team with 26 tackles, and junior C.J. Mosley has three sacks. This leads up to a Tiger bye-week before they take on the Colorado University Buffalos on what was just announced a regionally -televised game on ABC. Kickoff time is 2:30 p.m. on October 2, 2004, at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Mo. The Tigers look to start the Big 12 North season out right on their way to the Championship game in December.
