CAFNR Career Fair Takes Students on a "Wild Ride" of Opportunities
By Marie Findley, Corner Post Staff

Twenty four companies attended the 2004 Agriculture and Natural Resources Career Fair took place on Thursday, October 7, from 10-2 in Stotler Lounge which is in Memorial Union. Students had the opportunity to interact with the employers who either were looking to hire interns or full-time staff for their company.
Companies available to students ranged from grain companies, investment firms and marketing firms. The representatives gave students the opportunity to see what types of jobs were available to them after graduation.

Because Dana Brown Haynes recently resigned as Career Services Director, the Career Fair was planned on joint efforts. Haynes did most of the preliminary work, and Jane Loudermilk along with student assistants helped put the remaining bits and pieces together.

Stephanie Chipman, the new Career Services Director, started just a few days before the Career Fair. She held open office visits for students to have the opportunity to get their resume critiqued. She also sent out a “tips sheet” to help students know what to expect and how to prepare for the Career Fair. Loudermilk also looked over some resumes so that all students could be prepared to present their qualifications to employers in the best possible way.

The Hospitality Career Fair also took place on the same day as the CAFNR Career Fair but was held in the Mark Twain Ballroom in Memorial Union. Seventeen companies came to visit with students. This is the first year that the two career fairs took place on the same day. Loudermilk said, “This [the combined career fair] is a good alternative to separated career fairs in that more jobs are looking for skills applicable for the entire college.” Students seemed to like the idea as more than 300 students attended the combined career fairs.
