IBD's 10 Secrets To Success
Elizabeth Schilling, Reporter, CAFNR Corner Post

Dec. 1, 2003-Are you gearing up for these last two weeks of tests and final projects, which of course will be immediately followed up by finals week? Do you need a glimpse of the big picture to help you get through the next few weeks? I was visiting my parents over the weekend. My dad is an avid reader of Investor's Business Daily (IBD). I picked up the Friday November 7, 2003 issue which listed IBD's 10 Secrets To Success. Their 10 secrets to success seemed relevant having a successful semester end.

According to their article, IBD has spent years analyzing leaders and successful people in all walks of life. Most of us are striving to be successful or we wouldn't be in school or feeling stressed out over tests and projects. There are 10 traits which all of us could use in our pursuit of knowledge and success to encourage us in our life and during these last weeks of the semester.

Trait #1. How you think is everything: Always be positive. Think success, not failure. Beware of a negative environment.

Trait #2. Take Action: Goals are nothing without action. Don't be afraid to get started. Just do it.

Trait #3. Never Stop Learning: Go back to school or read books.

Trait #4. Get training and acquire skills.

Trait #5. Be Persistent And Work Hard: Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.

Trait #6. Learn To Analyze Details: Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes.

Trait #7. Focus Your Time and Money: Don't let other people or things distract you.

Trait #8. Don't Be Afraid To Innovate; Be Different: Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity.

Trait #9. Deal and Communicate With People Effectively: No person is an island. Learn to understand and motivate others.

Trait #10. Be Honest and Dependable; Take Responsibility: Otherwise traits 1-9 won't matter.
