Family History: Grew up on a farm in South Carolina and the land has been in the family for almost 300 years. We had cattle.

How does your family history relate to your current job?

I have a real dedication to the field of agriculture due to my family history. I love working with livestock. This gives me the unique ability to bridge the practical challenges of animal agriculture with the technical innovations that are evolving in today’s agricultural environment. I love teaching students that want to learn.

Do you have Children?

Yes, 2 boys and 1 girl. They are Emily age 16, Benjamin age 14, and Stephen age 11. They live with their mom most of the time, but I see them just about every day.

Favorite Past times:

Ice hockey- I love that sport and enjoy watching my boys play competitively
Building things
Scuba Diving
Water and Snow Skiing
Weight Lifting
Traveling Internationally- I have spent time in Canada, England, France, Columbia (one of my favorite places to work), Venezuela, Mexico an Tunisia

Memorable and Unique Experiences:

Standing next to a jet fighter while it went into full afterburner and watching the shock wav move through me
Repairing a jet fighter’s refueling door that was waiting to take off, while straddling the top of the engine
Called as an expert witness in a multimillion dollar law suit
Disrupting the power supply to a nuclear reactor in Bogotá’ Colombia
Working with my grandpa-the company he founded is still in the basket making business see http://www.roofbasket.com
Camping across the U.S. with my family when I was ten years old

Other Interesting Facts:

I was a machinist in the Air Force for 6 years before going to College-so I can fabricate parts and tools from metal.
My dad flew bombers in WWII and then was a crop duster-which is where I took my first flight in an open cockpit Stearman biplane
My dad became the chief logistical officer at an Air National Guard base so my mother, my older brother, younger sister and I managed the farm and cattle in his absence.

Finish my pilot’s license
Build a homebuilt aircraft
Improve my Spanish speaking ability
