Homecoming
Tradition Returns to Campus
Amanda Schad, Corner Post Staff
Oct. 21, 2003-Of all the traditions at Mizzou, perhaps the sweetest is Homecoming.
Not only is it a fun-filled weekend, but it is a tradition that originated right
here in Columbia. It began in 1911 when the University of Missouri's Director
of Athletics, Chester L. Brewer, urged Mizzou alumni to "Come Home" for the game.
The game ended in a victory for the Tigers and the homecoming tradition spread
to countless schools across the country.
This year's Homecoming theme is "Forever Fearless." Festivities include a spirit
rally in Greek Town, the Homecoming parade, with Sheryl Crow as the Grand Marshal,
and the game. The game-that's what it's really about. Kickoff is at 11:30 on
Saturday, October 25th. Come out to cheer the Tigers to victory against Texas
Tech. Saturday's game is this year's "Gold Rush" game - so Tiger fans are encouraged
to wear all gold to support the team.
