Meet
Temple Grandin
Linda Veatch, Corner Post Staff
November 6, 2003 - Temple Grandin will speak Wednesday, November 12, at 7p.m.
in Keller Auditorium, in the Geology Building. CAFNR Student Council is sponsoring
the event.
Grandin is an associate professor of animal sciences at Colorado State University.
Designing slaughter facilities and the humane treatment of the animals are the
topics for her speech. She has designed animal slaughter facilities in the United
States, Canada, and Europe, as well as Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. Also,
she has developed a scoring method for assessing handling of cattle and pigs
at meat plants. By utilizing her experiences from her own autism, she works to
improving animal welfare.
Grandin obtained her bachelor's degree. at Franklin Pierce College and her master's
degree in animal science at Arizona State University. She received her doctorate
in animal science in 1989 from the University of Illinois. She has appeared on
many television shows including "20/20", "48 Hours", "CNN", "Larry King Live",
and has been featured in publications such as People, the New York Times, Forbes,
and Time.
