Mizzou Cattlewomen Host Farm Safety College
Amy Dunlap, CAFNR Corner Post Reporter

September 30, 2003- Mizzou Cattlewomen had their hands full at the 2003 Farm Safety College held at Trowbridge Livestock Arena. Leslie Snodgrass, reporter for Mizzou Cattlewomen, explained at the meeting on October 8th, "We had about 350 kids signed up for the Farm Safety College, and that's great for an event like this."

At the event, high school and junior high school children from around the area had opportunities to learn about four-wheeler safety, livestock production, and other various aspects of agriculture. At noon, the Mizzou Cattlewomen served lunch with help from the Missouri Cattlemens Association.

Darla Eggers, advisor of Mizzou Cattlewomen said, "We have reached our limit on how many kids we can accommodate at this event. Either we going to have to extend it to two days, or we are going to have to turn away schools like we did this year."

Other option that was also discussed at the October 8th meeting was to have two farm safety colleges, one in the fall, and one in the spring.

Michelle Dowell, sophomore Animal Sciences major, who helped set up the event that morning said, "It's a great way for kids who are maybe not exposed to agriculture to gain an understanding of it in a fun way."
