MU
Freshman attend leadership retreat
Jessica Pollard, Corner Post Staff
September 8, 2003 – This fall, incoming freshmen had the opportunity
to participate in a first-time leadership retreat to help them
meet people, get involved and
better themselves.
The conference was held September 6-7, 2003 at Camp Windemere which is located
at the Lake of the Ozarks. Students left Friday afternoon and returned Saturday
evening.
The retreat was designed to present a variety of leadership skills to new students
who are attending MU. Four older MU students worked with the freshman during
the weekend to promote a positive learning experience and provide insight into
the planned activities.
Students attended several sessions which focused on various topics including
different divisions of leadership and communication skills. Students also broke
down and assessed their own personal inventory of leadership qualities and learned
how to improve upon them, set goals and plan for their future at MU.
Trent Engbers is the leader of the retreat and this is the first year for it.
His idea was to come up with a way to help new students make the transition from
high school to college through leadership activities and goal setting. Engbers’ goal
was to get people to interact with each other, learn many new leadership qualities
and have a wonderful time while fulfilling a purpose.
