Comedy Night Kicks Off Ag Week
Christian Prosser, Corner Post Staff

September 18, 2003- Comics Sam Griesbaum and Chris Johnson took the stage for the first night of Ag Week 2003. With beverages and laughs flowing freely in the upstairs comedy club at Déjà Vu a good time was had by all.

Doors opened at 6:30, and students flocked in to get seats for the next hour. While the house was offering free soda and popcorn, the drinks that sold the most were amaretto sours and Miller Lite.

At around 7:30 Master of Ceremonies Brian Laoruangroch announced Sam Griesbaum, a shorter stocky man with a full beard, and a cowboy hat, took the stage. A native of Cape Girardeau with some definite country flavor, Griesbaum had a close connection to the audience. Referring to a woman after a show, who told him, "You look like a fat Tim McGraw." He responded "You look like a skanky Faith Hill."

With topics ranging from Red Rider BB guns, Cajun Basset Hounds, fireworks and rock fights, Griesbaum hit home with many in the audience. "I liked the first one, he related better to the Ag. Students," sophomore Lisa Rees said.

After Griesbaum, the MC introduced Ag Week committee members Pam Barclay and Kyle Nelson to take credit for their efforts. Shortly after, Chris Johnson took the stage as the featured act. With his lanky frame and hyperactive stage antics, he seemed to enjoy reliving his college years. Although not as at home with the crowd, Johnson still riled things up a bit with his comic selections including: Baywatch, drunk guys vs. drunk girls, working as a bus driver and a paramedic, and playground equipment.

Many audience members said they had a good time. "It was friggin' hilarious," sophomore Chip Deubner said.
