CAFNR Hangs it Up for Ag Week
Chelsea Moffitt, Corner Post Staff

September 25, 2003 - This year's Ag Week public relations and promotions committees had some help promoting Ag Week with the onset of a new contest. CAFNR clubs and organizations could create a promotional banner for the Ag Week banner contest. This new contest was initiated by the Public Relations Chairs, Claire McClintic and Mike Deering.

"The contest was started to help publicize Ag Week. We got the idea from the engineering schools' week that is very similar to AG Week," Deering said.

Clubs could publicize their own event or another event of the week. This year seven banners were entered and displayed in the Ag Building hallway.

"We were disappointed in the turnout of banners. However, we also realize that this is a new thing that will grow with time. The clubs that did participate created very creative and neat banners that helped promote Ag Week and encouraged enthusiasm," Deering said.

A lot of students were pleasantly surprised to see the new decoration in the classroom hallway of the Ag Building. "I think the banners are cool and festive. They reminded me of events to get involved in throughout the week," Chantel Sparrow, freshman Ag Business major said.

"The banner contest really added something to this year's event. They not only provided additional promotion but also provided a different creative outlet for students and allowed them to showcase some of their talent," Dr. Jim Spain, Assistant Dean of Academic Programs said.
